I printed the background for this project onto fabric rather than paper. I marked the stitching design onto tracing paper and used it as a template. I could have sewn directly on a paper background but I wouldn't have gotten the lovely dimension that happens when a stitch sinks slightly into cloth.
I designed and cut the photo mat with an Xacto knife. Now that I have a Silhouette (electronic cutting tool) I look forward to doing more intricate designs in the future.
I embellished this piece with quilting as well as a little embroidery peeking from under the photo mat. There's a loosely satin-stitched heart at the top of the page. I loved adding the beads to this! There were so many different kinds. Only when you stand close can you see the clear ones. Too yummy! I've uploaded the background I made for this as a resource. It's sized for an 8 x 10 project but is high res so expect a bit of download time.
