I've challenged myself to learn needle tatting and used this project as a jumping off point. The center of the bookmark, the acorn & tiny oak leaf are crocheted but the edging is tatted. I used a needle rather than a shuttle.
Tatting makes such beautiful, airy pieces, yet it's stronger than crochet or knitting. I can hardly wait for the next project!
I learned that evenness of stitch and tension are as important to tatting as they are to crochet work. Tatting is forgiving in that you can carefully undo uneven work (thank goodness!). I used a superfine cotton yarn and a size #6 tatting needle.
